Sometimes an “upgraded” unit is actually worse than its predecessor. Off the top of my head, compare something like the altmer Spearmen and bowmen to the dominion spearmen and bowmen, or particularly the guard and soldier level units for daggerfall and wayrest. The style of TES changed a lot between 3,4, and 5. Compare that to Cyrodiil in TES TW where you’ve got Morrowind era legions mixed with Oblivion imperial guards and Skyrim legions. Think about the roster of someone like the Ar-Adunaim or Dorwinion in DAC, factions that are more or less invented for the mod, but have clear tiers of units that all look like they’re from the same place. The unit balance is all over the place, there’s missing or poorly translated unit descriptions and building icons, and few if any faction is visually cohesive - mostly it’s a collection of ported models from the games. Watch the main developer’s YouTube overview of any faction and compare that to a TES TW faction - the difference is night and day. I also love DaC so I have a good idea of what goes into it.

TES TW is very cool and I’m looking forward to 2.0, but it’s not nearly as polished as something like DAC or Stainless Steel.

The level of challenge, even for the most powerful starting faction is impressive (Aldmeri Dominion May have an easier campaign due to starting position, but is less powerful imo), the troop rosters are massive with relatively well balanced income/building/recruiting costs, and the campaign events are well done and implemented (military reforms, just hit the King of Worms, and looking forward to the oblivion crisis).Īnyway, I just thought this was a mod that I haven’t really seen talked about much, but is low key maybe the best TW mod I have seen, and I am really looking forward to 2.0 in a couple of months. However, I saw the trailer for 2.0 and decided I would give it another look, downloaded 1.6 and am about 50 turns into an imperial campaign, and I have to say: this may actually be better than TATW D&C. I had also tried TESTW during an earlier build (probably 1.2) and found it to be completely unplayable, and wrote it off for a while.

I have put probably 100 campaigns total into Europa Barbarorum, DEI, and Stainless Steel, and I got really into Third Age Total War (D&C) a while back and have put probably 50+ campaigns into that. I am more into the historic Total wars (Rome, Medieval II, Shogun II, Rome II, Attila, and soon Three Kingdoms), and I have been modding the games for added replay ability for years. So, I have been playing Total War since Rome came out way back when I was a kid, and I have loved it ever since. First post here, sorry for not including a meme.
